  • Placement of soft, ear-plug materials in the child’s ears to make measurements and to present sound stimuli
  • Request for your child to follow simple directions that are age appropriate
  • Request for your child to remain still and quiet for some parts of the test, also allowing for age appropriateness

Things you can do to prepare your child for his/her visit

  • If the child is less than three years old, bring a drink and/or a snack.  Infants will prefer the comfort of a bottle/breast.  Older children may prefer a favorite toy to make them feel more comfortable during the evaluation.
  • Complete the paperwork that is mailed to your home before you arrive at the office.  Otherwise, please arrive 20 minutes early to fill out the appropriate forms.  Bring a photo ID and the child’s insurance card.
  • Plan your route to the office in advance so that you are not rushed to locate us at the last minute.  Call well ahead of time and the office will be happy to assist you with directions.
  • As appropriate, discuss the visit with your child.  Assure him/her that the visit will be fun, and that we will ask them to listen to some sounds so that we can determine how well they hear.
  • Show your child the photo on our website of the professional whom you will see at the office.
  • Arrange for childcare for your other children so that full attention can be given to the child being tested.
  • Allow the child to get a full night’s sleep the evening before the test.
