HEAR FOR YOURSELF...

What would it be like to have a hearing loss?

Conductive hearing loss (such as the loss caused by impacted wax or otitis media) results in a loss of hearing sensitivity. However, sensorineural hearing loss, the most common type in adults, involves damage to the actual sensory organ, the cochlea. This causes not only a loss of sensitivity, but also distorted speech perception and hypersensitivity to loud sounds.

Developed at the University of Wisconsin, this site simulates various degrees and patterns of hearing loss. However, it's not the same as truly experiencing the difficulties of hearing loss full-time. These difficulties can lead to a higher incidence of anxiety, social isolation and depression (according to a study by the national Council on the Aging).

If you or someone you know is experiencing hearing loss, a simple audiological evaluation is needed. Please call my office at 770-425-1095 to schedule an appointment. Most insurance accepted.
